There are certain moments in every wedding that we always look for and try to capture – the look on the groom’s face as he sees his bride walking down the aisle… A father’s face as he gives his daughter away… A mother’s tears as she watches her daughter marry her Prince Charming… The emotion and intimacy captured in those moments can be overwhelming. But the unscripted moments that spontaneously occur are the ones that often define weddings for us.
At Ashley and Jim’s wedding the defining moment (for me, at least) might sound silly… All the girls were in the getting-ready room at Bentley’s on the Bay. The bridesmaids were ready, Ashley’s dress was hanging up and she was completing the finishing touches on her hair and makeup. Music was playing, and then a song came on and someone yelled “turn it up!!!” Next thing I knew all the bridesmaids were singing and dancing joyously to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” at the top of their lungs. Listening to the words and seeing the look of excitement and sheer bliss on Ashley’s face I could tell how truly, madly in love she was. And I knew that she had found her perfect match…
In that moment I wanted nothing more than to join in and sing with them at the top of my lungs (but of course I didn’t). After their wedding I couldn’t get that song or their silly dance out of my head, so I had to download it, listen to it on repeat while editing, and then have my own dance party with my number one (photos compliments of my lovely iPhone). Since then we’ve had to listen to it at least 67 times (perhaps more) so I have the entire song memorized. I will always think of those girls singing with love and hope in their eyes…
“Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here’s my number, so call me, maybe?
And all the other boys, try to chase me, but here’s my number, so call me, maybe?
Afterward things settled down a bit and the mood took on a more serious tone. Love letters were exchanged and tears were shed. They were married by the bay underneath weeping willow trees. Patrick and I enjoyed spending time with them and their family and capturing their love on camera once again. We wish them all the best as they begin this new phase of their lives and hope that they remember their wedding day with many fond memories.
p.s. – We’re randomly giving away a copy of “Call Me Maybe” on iTunes to a blog commenter within the next week. Leave Ashley and Jim some love and get your groove on!
