Happy Valentine’s Day! We talk about love a lot here because there are just so many things that we truly love. I (Holly) love my family and chocolate. Bryce loves his fiance. Patrick loves being weird. We love coming to work in the morning and being together – most importantly, we all love what we do and hope that it shows! We can honestly say that we put so much heart and soul into what we do that we want our clients to not just be satisfied, but to (you guessed it)… LOVE their finished products. It’s important for us to educate our clients on a few basics, which is why we’re going to incorporate some informative posts into our regular blog. We’ll answer some questions such as: What’s an aspect ratio? Why shouldn’t I print my photos at Walmart? And we’ll also provide some fun ideas for storing and archiving your memories along the way.
First off, we’re going to show you an example of how aspect ratio affects your print sizes. Below is a photo with three different crop lines. The first one is the original image, which could be cropped to 4×6 inches. If you crop the image to a 5×7, you would lose a good part of the image; if that same image is cropped to an 8×10, even more of the image is lost. Depending on the image that you’re working with, you can sometimes make a crop work for you- other times you can not do so without losing a significant portion of the image.
If you’d like us to get more detailed about aspect ratio, sensor size, or any other topic, just post a comment to let us know – Luft loves nerding out!

That’s a great photo and the little girl is so beautiful. Children are perfect for pictures.

Thank you! I do agree about children, too! Well, when we actually manage to capture them being still.
